Holy Mass in the St. James Church

The Parish Church of St. James in Medjugorje is the centre of pilgrimage and spiritual activity, drawing millions of visitors worldwide each year.

St. James Church typically holds multiple Masses throughout the day in different languages. The schedule may vary depending on the season and other factors.

The Statue of the Risen Saviour

Visit the Statue of the Risen Saviour behind the St James church and outdoor altar’s pews; a pathway leads to various structures, including the significant statue of the Risen Christ.

This bronze/copper statue depicts Christ with His arms uplifted in victory. On any given day, pilgrims queue to approach the statue, many holding handkerchiefs, to collect a “liquid” seeping from just below its right knee. Many pilgrims regard this liquid miraculous and have attributed healing properties to it.

Visitors are advised to maintain silence in this sacred space. The Stations of the Cross encircle the garden area, enhancing its spiritual ambience.

Visit the Apparition Hill in Medjugorje.

Apparition Hill, or Podbrdo, is located on the outskirts of Medjugorje and is easily accessible by foot from the town centre.

The path to the top of Apparition Hill is well-marked and maintained. Although the trail is relatively steep in places, it is not overly challenging for most people. Take your time and proceed at a comfortable pace. Wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven terrain.
Climbing Apparition Hill takes an average of 90 minutes and covers 2 Km/1.24 miles.

Along the path to the top of Apparition Hill, you will encounter the Stations of the Cross, representing the events of Jesus’ crucifixion. Each station is marked with a cross or shrine, and pilgrims often stop to pray and reflect at each station.

On the summit, there is a large cross and a statue of the Queen of Peace. Many pilgrims gather there to pray, reflect, and experience the spiritual atmosphere of the site.

After spending time at the summit, you can begin your descent back down the hill. Take care as you make your way down, especially on any steep or uneven sections of the trail.
